About Eat Well Stay To Well
Food Glorious Food
Firstly, welcome to my site of “Eat well to Stay Well”. The fact that you have clicked on to my blog means that you are a “foodie” like me, and appreciate and enjoy the whole spectrum of the “cooking and eating experience”. “Eat well to stay well” encompasses a wide range of food and delicious recipes with a strong emphasis on health. There are many benefits that may be achieved from eating correctly, and I want to show you, that food that looks wonderful and tastes irresistible may also be beneficial to your health and sense of well being! Many of my recipes are based on Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking, acknowledged as being amongst the healthiest ways of eating worldwide! However, I believe in a healthy attitude to food and a balanced and varied diet so there are also dishes reminiscent of Lithuanian, Eastern European and Jewish cooking as well as a sprinkling of Indian, Chinese and Japanese. Life and food are about balance. Where food is concerned, the optimum balance should be 80% carbohydrates, 15% protein and the balance should be fruits, vegetables and essential fats. All foods have something to offer, however certain foods, may benefit you at different stages of your life! As far as healthy food is concerned, establishing a healthy eating plan at an early age provides us with a heightened sense of well being, and enjoyable progression well into old age and is possibly the best form of health insurance we could take out! My intention is to provide a new recipe each week and hope that the “preparation and sampling” prove to be as rewarding and enjoyable as the “eating experience”!
How I Became a Foodie
I was born in South Africa although my parents were originally from Lithuania. Much of my mother’s cooking was based on recipes handed down to her from past generations of Russian Jewry, hence my love for Eastern European food. However in London, where I lived for 20 years, I was introduced to healthy eating as well as the Macrobiotic diet, which I followed for a couple of years. Although I do not believe that one should follow any specific diet, this influenced my perception of food and made me realize what an important role food plays in our health and well being. For the past 20 years I have lived in Spain where I have been surrounded by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cooking. I genuinely enjoy food and have always had a passion for cooking. I try as as far as possible to provide my family with healthy and nutritious meals whilst still remembering that “food is to be enjoyed”! So every now and again I sneak in a dish that may not be classed as beneficial to health but is so tasty and delicious that it simply must be tried!
